The second annual Teaching Writing Summer Symposium at Stephen F. Austin State University will continue the mission of improving college-writing readiness in the East Texas community by offering a week-long series of collaborative workshops for writing instructors from area high schools, community colleges, and universities.  The ongoing goal of the Teaching Writing summer symposium series is to develop and share effective and repeatable pedagogical methods to improve the writing skills of incoming and current university freshman in the East Texas area.

For summer 2012, we have chosen the theme of multi-modal and mixed media instruction.  The workshops will emphasize manipulation of materials and the view of composition as performance.  The purpose of this multi-modal focus is to help teachers visualize and design a composition curriculum that

1) accommodates different learning styles,

2) increases student engagement, and

3) connects student writing to the everyday demands of technology and communication.

Details will be forthcoming in April 2012.
